Affirmation of Faith

Affirmation of Faith
(from the Nicene Creed)

We believe in one Lord,
Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit
and teh Virgin Mary
and became truly human.

For our sake he was crucified under
Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

Question Corner

YouSay Godsay July2017August 2017.

In Future newsletters, our pastor, Rev. Kathy Escandell will introduce a new feature called Question Corner. If you are curious about some aspect of Reformed Theology, of PC(USA) polity, or FPC history, or - well, really, just about anything connected to the church - send to the pastor your question via e-mail or jot it down and leave it in the church office.

This month, we got a question for you:

What do you value and support in the community?

Also, we'd love to hear about social and services opportunities that enrich your days.

Our Pastor

Rev. Kathry EscandeIl

In the Summer of 2017, Rev. Escandell joined First Presbyterian Church  McAllen. Next, it is a little bit of her story:

Rev Kathryn EscandellRev. Kathry Escandell is a life-long child of the church. Her childhood church was First Presbyterian in La-Marque, Texas. She attended college in New Orlean, Newcomb College where she received a B.A. in English. It was in that time when she met and married Tom. The couple ended up spending 20 years in south Louisiana and having four children - Jason, Adam, Eley and Joe. Today, all of her children live in Austin. Her son Jason married to Katy and they have two children: 5 years old Penelope and almost 2 years old Gavin. Her son Joe married Heather and they are about to celebrate their second wedding anniversary.

Over the years, Rev. Escandell had a variety of jobs: teaching junior high; teaching pre-school; managing an Executive Suite; working as an administrative assistant in a lobbying and public relations firm down the street from the Texas Capitol. Also, for years, she has been very active in the church, serving as a decon, ruling elder, committee member and chair, VBS director, retreat leader, long-range-planning team member, and assorted other tasks and callings.

In 2006, her husband Tom died after a very brief illness and she enrrolled herself in seminary. While attending seminary, she worked part time at Central Presbyterian Church in Austin, as Director of Christian Education for Children and Youth. In 2011, she moved from Central Press to University Presbyterian Austin (UPC), where she served first as Director of Christian Formation (2011-2014) and then as Associate Pastor for Christian Formation (2014-2016). On July 15, 2017, Rev. Escandell joined FPC McAllen, starting a new chapter in the story of First Presbyterian Church of McAllen, Texas.
